NNAACNNAAC Congratulates NY Arab American and Muslim Community on Lawsuit Challenging NYPD Unwarranted Spying Program

The National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC) congratulates the New York Arab American and Muslim Community on their landmark lawsuit against the New York Police Department for their unwarranted and suspicionless spying program. We thank the legal team that includes the New York Civil Liberties Union, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability and Responsibility (CLEAR) project of the Main Street Legal Services, Inc. at CUNY Law School for their important work on this historic lawsuit. We also thank all of the participants for their efforts to end unwarranted surveillance of the Arab and Muslim American community in New York and nationwide.

NNAAC believes that all communities should be treated just and fair by law enforcement and should not be targeted based solely on religion, race, and/or national origin. NNAAC continues to work with national and local coalitions to end racial and religious profiling by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

ACCESS/Michigan United urge to continue progression toward immigration reform

Immigration press conference 5.30.13

ACCESS and Michigan United hosted a news conference at ACCESS recently to launch the “Remember November” campaign aimed at keeping the forward momentum toward a clear path to citizenship for immigrant families. U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr. supported the effort calling to hold elected officials accountable for keeping immigrant families together by fixing the broken immigration system. A voter registration drive began immediately after the news conference, and immigration advocates also announced statewide community-based partnerships designed to help elected officials focus on the needs of immigrant families and their communities.
